2025 Preview

What’s coming up in 2025?

Since January 2025, the Main Altar of St. Mary’s Church is hidden by scaffolding and foil. During the next two years it will be restored at a cost of roughly 360,000 Euro. These works are mostly funded by the Friends of St. Mary’s Church Society. The Oetker foundation will be a major contributor, too. This project is related to the organ restoration, as it has been decided some time that the altar restoration shall be the last major restorations work in the church before the organ project.

The images show the wrapped altar and new photographer’s views which have become possible now due to the scaffolding. One picture shows the intended position of the choir organ within the north-west arcade of the choir, together with the main organ in the background.

At the end of February, a round of experts and representatives of several institutions and authorities gathered for another so called “Building Conference”, where all building projects for the three churches of the Rostock Lutheran City Parish are being reviewed. Regarding the organ project, necessary repairs at the inner structure of the instrument have been discussed and will enter planning stage. Realisation will go through several stages, too. The total cost will be around 100,000 Euro. These works will be funded by the Church Music Support Society of the Parish, where most of the donations for the restoration project have been collected.
